50 Years ago I did my first Oil Painting! Just married and with empty walls in our first apartment, I was inspired to do a painting. With a job and finally money for paints and materials and an attitude of “how hard can it be” I set to work. If course I had been drawing for as long as I can remember so I was comfortable that it was possible. And I was young!
I could never have envisioned that painting would become one day a full time career for me with many locations and changes along the way.
This year I entered the 40th Annual La Cloche Art Show in Whitefish Falls, Ontario with the urging of a friend who has an island in the north shore. To my surprise and pleasure, I won 1st in my category of Oil with the painting “Rhythm of the Rocks”. This was from images taken to previous trips to this area.
There is a rich art history in the La Cloche area where members of the Group of Seven, Franklin Carmichael, A.Y. Jackson, Arthur Lismer and A.J. Casson painted. During the early years of the Show, many famous artists were shown including Sir Frederick Banting, Robert Bateman, Isabel McLaughlin and Ivan Wheale to name just a few.
I hope you will come and help me celebrate this 50 year milestone with me by visiting the Studio. I am open by Appointment or Chance most of the year.
